Hi Kids! Welcome to day 3 of our prayer challenge! What have you learned in the past two days?
1 What did you learn about the wise men?
2. What did you learn about Mary and Elizabeth?
3. Are you feeling better about praying?
Let’s go on a treasure hunt! Yesterday we looked for answers to our questions in the Bible story. When we hunt through God’s Word we will find something more valuable than money or anything you can buy. What is the most expensive thing you can think of?
You are the most valuable thing on the planet, because God gave his own life for you. Jesus was born as a baby so he could grow up and die on the cross for your sin. He was born to die so you could live. That means God thinks you are more valuable than diamonds, cars, gold, iPhones, or castles.
So, let’s look into God’s word to find treasure today!
1.Golden nugget 1: Why did Joseph and Mary have to go to Bethlehem right when Mary was ready to have Jesus?
2. Golden nugget 2: Where was Jesus born?
3. Golden nugget 3: Who did the Angels appear to and what did they say?
4. Golden nugget 4: What did the people do after they heard the Angels’ message?
Let’s pray and ask God to open our hearts to find treasure in his Word!
“Father, in Jesus name help me find the truthful treasure in your Word. Open my heart with your Holy Spirit. Teach me, God. Amen!”
Luke 2 New International Version (NIV)
The Birth of Jesus
2 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register.
4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them,
“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
Prayer Time:
“Father, in Jesus name, thank you for new birth in Jesus. Thank you that Jesus was born to save us. Even though he was a king, he was born in a barn.
God, help me not to complain when I can’t have everything I want. Jesus had a cow trough for his bed. God forgive me for not appreciating what I have and for times when I throw fits or cry or get upset because I want something I can’t have.
Lord Jesus, you shared everything with us. Help me to share and not be stingy or selfish. Forgive me for wanting to keep everything good for myself.
God change my heart and help me be like Jesus.
God, we praise you today like the Angels. We say, ‘Glory to God in the highest and peace and goodwill on those on whom his favor rests.’
God rest your favor upon us, in Jesus name and help me to glorify you like the Angels and the shepherds.
In Jesus name, Amen.”
