21 Days of Fasting and Prayer for our Children and Grandchildren – Day 8 Breaking the Curse

We have arrived at day 8 of our travail of fasting and prayer for our children and grandchildren. I hope you are prayerfully approaching your fast and what level God wants you to participate in.

God may lead you to abstain from junk food and sugar. He may have you fasting 1 meal today and 2 meals tomorrow. In the middle of the fast, he may call you to do a longer fast where you just take liquids and cut out all solids for a couple of days. I experienced a medical emergency in the middle of my fast due to some medication. I needed to stop fasting for two days. During that time, I focused on prayer. After I felt better, I was able to resume a healthy fast. Please keep in step with the Spirit during this time.

Have you seen any breakthroughs in your life? You may not see all the breakthroughs you are praying for, yet. But, very likely, you are seeing God’s blessing pouring in and confirming and encouraging the time you are taking to commit to being in prayer and in his word. God gives us comfort and affirmation in the waiting.

Staring week 2 of our commitment, have you seen healing and breakthrough in your own heart. and walk with God? When praying for our children, God often needs to deal with things within us – the parents – before breakthroughs happen down the line of descendants. Why?

In scripture, we see over and over again how parents pass “spiritual” DNA down to their children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren. We see this spiritual truth in the Ten Commandments.

“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.” Exodus 20:4-6

Here in the 10 commandments, we see something about God’s nature. He tells us he is a jealous God. He longs for our complete devotion. We are HIS children. He is our creator, our Father, the lover of our souls. He wants us to keep all other idols and mixture of other religions out of our lives. This passage also tells the Israelites how God deals with sin and spiritual adultery. The judgement for the sin of the parents is visited on children to the 3rd and 4th generation.

That sounds very heavy contrasted against the blessings of righteousness that reaches 1000 generations! Endless generations will live under the residual effects of the blessing of what 1 righteous ancestor walked in with the Lord. We see this with Abraham. God promised Abraham that the nations of the world would be blessed because of him. God doesn’t break his promise to a righteous person. We can take that to the bank. On the other hand, we need to also to deal with the curses that our sins or the sins of our forefathers have perpetuated in our family line.

What do you think of when you hear the word “curse”? I used to think of swear words or using bad language. Did you know the almost every time that a curse is mentioned in the Bible (over 100 times!) it affects not only the person who was cursed, but also their descendants? The Bible uses the word “curse” many times throughout the Old and New Testament to describe the power of evil, or limitations or setbacks that settle on a person due to God, or a person of authority over the person speaking a curse on him.

The Bible teaches how people come under curses and how they are set free from them. Today, we will keep it very basic, as we learn to pray for God’s will for breaking curses over our children.

Where do we see the word “curse” in the Bible? The first place we see a curse is where Adam and Eve “fell” into sin in Genesis.

Genesis 2:15-17 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

The first curse was pronounced in the garden of Eden. God promised that Adam and Eve could have whatever food they wanted to eat, except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The curse God pronounced was that “The day you eat from it, you will surely die.”

This curse from God was a promised consequence for direct disobedience and stepping out of the expressed will of God. What do we see happen in this curse? When Adam and Eve sinned, the curse came on both of them. The physical land was affected by the curse and Eve’s womb was cursed.

All people on earth live under the effects of the curse of Adam’s sin. There is not a single person who is unaffected by it. We see that the curse of sin and death passes from generation to generation. Some women will “blame” Eve or wonder “Why did Eve have to do it!?” Why do I need to live under the curse of sin and death?

Not only was Eve deceived into sin, she also received the first promise that the Messiah would come from her seed, and crush Satan’s head. God’s mercy outweighs his judgement. Mercy is greater than sacrifice. He made a plan to redeem Adam and Eve’s line from the power of the curse.

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity

between you and the woman,

and between your offspring and hers;

he will crush your head,

and you will strike his heel.”

The Lord promised Satan that his time and demonic influence would be measured. Jesus was coming. He would be the perfect atonement for the curse.

Galatians 3:13 “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.” He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

This passage is talking about a different curse – the curse of the law. When Jesus died and rose again, his perfect sacrifice for sin broke both the curse of sin and the curse of the law. And because Christ redeemed us by taking our place on the cross, we can learn to step out from under curses and into the glorious power of the freedom of Christ.

A small example of being under the curse of the law is the idolatry of Free Masonry. Free Masons take blood oaths and swear on their own health and the health of their descendants. Many people have been healed by renouncing the Free Masonry oaths and curses in their family line and bringing it under the power of Jesus’ name. A sweet young mother I know was instantly set free from crippling anxiety, depression and rage after dealing the Free Mason curses in her family. Her grandfather brought the curse on the family. My friend had the power in Jesus to break that curse and command the evil one to leave. Why? Because she put her faith in Jesus who became a curse so we could be free from the curse.

Another type of curse can come from participation (small or great) in the occult. People who participate in false religions, cults or the occult will bring themselves and their family lines under a curse. Participating in these need to be repented from and brought under the power of Jesus’ name. Repent of the sin of idolatry and the occult. Renounce the lies, the false religion and the enemy and the curse. Refill your life in the place of those idols with the power of the Holy Spirit. (Lord, give me your Spirit of truth to fill me. )

Blessings (not just curses) also are inherited. God promised Abraham the truth for his children:

So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”

Galatians 3:7 “Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham. Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.”

Here is where we see a blessing that passes from parents to all generations after them- it is a blessing of Faith! During our fast, we are seeking to break the negative sin patterns and curses in our family lines and to bring about a blessing and miracles for freedom.

One last encouragement from Proverbs 26:2 “Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow,

an undeserved curse does not come to rest.” As a believer in Jesus, random curses can’t just “settle” on you. This blog is not trying to cause undo fear. If someone doesn’t like a righteous person and tries to “curse” them. God will protect the righteous person. This is not a deserved curse. The curses from family sins fall under the category of “inherited” curses. They are easily broken in the name of Jesus, when you pray for the forgiveness of sin and reverse the curse in the name of Jesus.

Prayer Point for today –

Today, ask the Lord to reveal to you any curses you or your family are under. Was there any Free Masonry? Was there occult involvement like witchcraft, a false religion, a cult or idolatry? Did you participate in crystals, fortune tellers, ouija boards, diving, horoscopes or yoga? (Yoga is an Eastern religion practice where the poses celebrate different demonic Hindu gods and goddesses.)

Ask the Lord to show you if there are any curses that need broken. Are there things that run in your family that just seem to be perpetuated with every generation? Abuse, alcoholism, addiction, broken homes, sexual sin, rebellion, lying, sicknesses or diseases?

Spend time in prayer today to ask the Lord what needs to be broken off in the name of Jesus. Write down what he shows you. This may take a while. That’s okay. It’s important to be thorough.

If you have finished your list and want to pray, follow these basic guidelines.

*Repent. Remember that Jesus became a curse for us when he hung on the tree. The answer to breaking a curse is to repent of the sin that brought on the curse and ask God to forgive your family and yourself for all the sins related to that curse. i.e. “Father, in Jesus name, I come before you to ask you to forgive my family and myself for all wickedness we have lived in. Lord, my grandfather was a (Free Mason/adulterer/a gambler). Please forgive him for this sin and break its power over our family line. I stand in Jesus Christ and break the power of the curse of Free Masonry, adultery, gambling over me and my family. (or fill in the blank with what applies to you.) I ask your forgiveness for these sins in the name of Jesus. Free Masonry and all of its demonic power over me and my kids are broken, In Jesus’ name. I renounce the curse of (Free Masonry, (or fill in the blank.) over me and my family. I renounce the lies and destruction that came with these sinful lifestyles in Jesus’ name. I command all evil spirits to leave me and my children in the name of Jesus. I ask Oh, Lord, that you fill me with your Spirit. Fill me and use me mightily to bring you glory Father God.

(Pray this for any and all sin patterns in your life where there just seems to be something “off” or a repeated pattern of sickness, injury or health issues.)

Continue to pray and seek the Lord over the next days and see if he brings anything to light.

God Bless!
